The above sketches were for “The Happening” contest over on DeviantART. The rules were simple, all they had asked was that the final product to relate to one of the following three symptoms: “loss of speech”, “disorientation” and “fatal”. Pretty easy you would think? After some thought, I transfered the ideas into photoshop and came up with the three scribbles above. What I had thought were once pretty solid concepts, started to crumble fast as they were realized.
Being an artist, I am always going to be my own worst critic - it’s just life but lately I have realized that my concepts and roughs are lost in translation; when the idea moves from my head to the paper. I’m one of those artists that likes to just get in and go, but I guess I just need to work on that process of exploring the whole idea and the potential of the idea in my head before I commit to one.
Also, I should be drawing from life more and stop drawing from a template my head. Anyways, that’s enough of the rambling. I am off to the east coast soon, if all goes well with getting a couple weeks off.
